A regular latte is often a combination of espresso, steamed milk, and froth. Flavor(s), sweeteners, and/or whipped cream may possibly be added to sweeten the drink. An iced latte is essentially the same thing, but served with cold milk and ice as opposed to steamed milk.

Here are the steps to making a 12 ounce iced latte.

Adding Desired Flavors

If any sugar, sweetener, or flavors are desired for the latte, add them towards the cup prior to pulling the espresso shots. Doing this will assist the syrup or sugar to melt instead of remaining clumpy or grainy inside drink.

About 1 to two ounces of syrup or sauce should be additional for a 12 ounce drink. Popular flavors include vanilla, caramel, irish cream, and hazelnut. Many coffeehouses use Torani brand flavors, and these are offered at most specialty food stores in a smaller size.

If no sweetener or syrup is extra, pour about an inch of milk towards the cup to save the shots immediately after pulling them. Most coffeehouses use 2% milk, but skim or whole milk may perhaps be used as nicely. Producing an iced latte with skim milk is referred to as a skinny iced latte, and generating an iced latte with half-and-half is known as a breve iced latte.

Pulling the Shots of Espresso

Grind the espresso beans just just before pulling the shots for the best flavor. Load the fresh grinds into the portafilter handle, and tamp level prior to inserting in to the espresso machine. Be positive to pull shots among 16-26, preferably in between 18-23.

Instantly soon after pulling satisfactory shot(s), pour two in the cup with sweetener/syrup or milk to save them. For less coffee taste, use only 1 shot, and if an extra shot is desired, use three. The espresso has a 10 second window ahead of it begins losing flavor and increasing in bitterness.

Remember that pulling shots of espresso could be tough, especially when under pressure to do so rapidly. Be sure to pull test shots just before beginning any drink to know the tamping level that must be used.
